I am writing to invite you to participate in the 15th Annual St. Nicholas Charity Golf Outing, THE DON MARTIN CLASSIC, slated for Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Prout's Neck Country Club. In the last five years, we have raised over $196,000 for local charities through the golf tournament and the silent and live auction. I am happy to announce that the Project G.R.A.C.E. has been selected as this year’s charity, and will share the proceeds with the St. Nicholas Church. About Don Martin

Donald J. Martin of Scarborough passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack on September 2, 2006 at the age of 63. Don was born on July 26, 1943 in Biddeford, Maine to William and Yvonne Roux Martin. He graduated from Thornton Academy in 1961. After high school, Don spent three years in the United States Navy, and then returned to Southern Maine to earn his degree from Nasson College in Springvale in 1968. Don married Barbara Barrows of Farmington, Maine on September 14, 1968, and together they raised two daughters, Michelle and Jill, in Waterville, Maine. Don was a fixture in the lives of his daughters and their friends. In addition, Don was an active member of the Waterville community, where he served as a member of the Waterville School Board and the Waterville Opera House Board. He was an avid supporter of Waterville athletics and extracurriculars, including the swimming, tennis, and basketball teams. Don spent his entire career with Upjohn, working for 35 years as a pharmaceutical salesman and earning numerous commendations. During that time, he also developed a number of strong relationships with members of his Upjohn family that he and Barbara cherished. An avid sportsman, Don was a tennis player, hiker, biker, and hunter who never approached anything halfheartedly. That determination extended to golf, which he took up in the last decade and for which he was passionate. His golfing partners ran the gamut of all ages and abilities, and Don never passed up the opportunity to play with those he loved. A perfectionist, Don recorded the details of each and every round of golf in a log that he used to track his progress. Over the past six years, much of Don’s life has been dedicated to his four grandchildren- Lilli, Sam, Charlie, and Jake- who adored their “Grampa” and the frequent visits he paid to their homes or the various excursions he planned with them. Don boasted about his children and grandchildren frequently, the pride evident in his voice and his handsome face. In addition, Don enjoyed traveling with Barbara to numerous places in the United States, as well as vacationing on Clearwater Lake in Farmington, where he relished his role as leader of “The Outlaws”. Don was an active member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Waterville and St. Nicholas Episcopal Church of Scarborough, where he recently served as warden. He was also a member of the Scarborough Lion’s Club A beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Don is survived by: Barbara Barrows Martin, his wife of 38 years; daughter Michelle Martin Whitney and her husband, Christopher Whitney, of Cape Elizabeth; daughter Jill Martin Frame and her husband, Gregg Frame, of South Portland; grandchildren Lillian Frame, Samuel Whitney, Charles Whitney, Jake Frame, and Lyla Whitney; brothers William Martin of Biddeford, Maine and Raymond Martin of Florida; his aunt Simone Bergeron of Sanford; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
